Become the Solution! The way we live life on this planet isn't sustainable. You know this needs to change and are looking to gain the tools and find the allies to empower you to impact positive change. PGS has what you have been searching for.
We are the only school of our kind. PGS offers one of the first, and highest ranked, sustainable MBAs and the only sustainable MPA in the country – both come together in our unique, fully integrated dual degree program which enables our graduates to effectively bridge the critical divide between commerce and government.
The world needs what we teach, now more than ever. There is no question that in today’s world, we need every bit of help to protect our environment and hard-earned rights while also moving the world forward to new levels of prosperity. Systems-level, intersectoral problem solving that reaches public administration is a tangible remedy our most pressing sustainability challenges – and teaching in this way is our contribution to the solution.
The PGS network is powerful. Since 2002, our graduates have made their mark on sustainable management and public policy. Some have made their way into the white house and Wall Street and others are making their impact on farms, Silicon Valley and abroad. In 2016, we acquired Pinchot University (formerly Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI)) which doubled our network to 1,800 and we continue to grow.
It’s a fun place to do serious work. Although we take on some of the hardest challenges of our time, we do so among like-minded colleagues, partners, and friends. Collaboration and community enable us to achieve significant results. Thanks to harnessing this key to success, Presidians also regularly get to experience the thrill and joy that comes from making a positive difference in our world.
We love the work itself and are proud to live our lives with meaning.
Together, Presidians are changing our world – for the better. Join us.
*Presidio Graduate School is an accredited non-profit graduate school with top rankings for social impact and environmental sustainability.
If you ask 10 people in our community why they think Presidio Graduate School is special, you will likely get 10 different answers. Our MBA and MPA programs teach all the business and public administration fundamentals you would find in a conventional school, such as operations, finance, and innovation. The common thread among us however, is a deep commitment to sustainability and a unified belief that we, as inhabitants of earth, can't go on as is, indefinitely – it's literally not possible. We also believe we can, and must learn how to work with others to forge or invent solutions to real-world problems. Despite the variety among us, we share a vision for a more healthy, just and prosperous world.
Every choice we make and everything we do makes an imprint and has a ripple effect on the world around us. Understanding this, deeply, makes it easier to pinpoint areas where an impact can be made. When a company learns to act 'mindful' about it's contribution to and impact on society and the planet, it becomes part of the solution.
We don’t just tack sustainability on as an elective, because in today's world – it's not an option. Each course is taught through a sustainability lens that trains students to see in systems – not just words and numbers. An understanding of how everything is connected is a Presidian super power.
Students provide class feedback at every residency and challenge our teachers to integrate multiple perspectives as they develop their curriculum and teaching methods. Our scholar-practitioner faculty blend theory and experience in their approach to the three pillars that drive our coursework: business/public administration fundamentals, leadership development, and sustainable systems thinking.
We work hard at creating a true learning community. Our faculty and student body believe that intractable problems only get solved through mindshare. Class time includes workshop exercises, dyads, quick fire sessions, dialogue, and lectures.
We regularly work with organizations like Puma, Google, Code for America, and the East Bay MUD. Many of our graduates cite their EL and ALP projects as the biggest reason why they chose to attend PGS. This is actual job experience that goes on your resume – while you're studying to receive your MBA or MPA degree.
Most humans learn best by practicing what they're taught, not by listening to lectures or reading books (well not only books). Our Experiential Learning (EL) and Applied Learning (ALP) programs have our students working on real-world consulting projects for real companies making a real impact. This is part of 360 degree academics, the holistic learning experience.
In between “monthly residency weekends,” students and faculty meet and work online through an instructional platform. Webinars, teleconferences and the virtual student forum portal allows them to upload assignments, participate in forum discussions, and collaborate on team projects.
We make the most of technology, without sacrificing the value of in-person interaction. For two to four days each month, students gather in San Francisco or Seattle for concentrated in-person classroom time as well as breakout sessions, presentations and lively discussions with faculty, classmates and guest speakers.
Presidians take on some of the hardest challenges of our time, we do so among like-minded colleagues, partners and friends who make collaborative learning both fun and effective. PGS students come from across the U.S. and abroad forming an unparalleled network of sustainability experts across all sectors and industries.
Our network is not only wide, but deep. From orientation to alumni, you become both a resource to others and are encouraged to ask questions and make new connections. Unlike traditional management graduate schools, all successes are shared and we all learn from and help each other.
Transformative change can be uncomfortable and disruptive. The perfect idea and well designed business case goes unnoticed without the courage, resilience and the confidence to mobilize others. PGS's 360 degree academics ensure strengths are nurtured and weakness are delegated (:p).
Our scholar-practitioner faculty blend theory and experience in their approach to the three pillars that drive our coursework: business/public administration fundamentals, leadership development, and sustainable systems thinking. This focus has paved our history of developing exceptional leaders who hone their capacity for compassion, relational insight, and clarity.
Presidio Graduate School is here to equip Presidians with the interpersonal, implementation, innovation, and change-management skills needed to make pragmatic decisions in the world now to ensure there will be a sustainable world tomorrow.
Sustainability is not an add-on at Presidio Graduate School because it has always been present in every course and spreads across all disciplines. Systems thinking incorporates themes and methods across all courses, career development, entrepreneurial plans, experiential learning projects, and internships with private and public organizations.
A reciprocal learning community.
PGS’s scholar-practitioner faculty blend theory and experience in their courses. Monthly class time includes interactive workshop exercises, dyads, quick fire sessions, dialogue, and lectures. Students co-create the curriculum with the professors, providing in-class and out-of-class feedback on projects. This provides time for integrating multiple perspectives and vibrant conversations.
The classroom experience and conversations at PGS are much richer than the typical academic experience. We all “get it” here and work together to manage right. Come see for yourself. You deserve to learn better.
