The PGS MPA is the only sustainability MPA of its kind - our students are influential across sectors in a way other MPAs simply cannot be.
The most distinctive aspect of our Master of Public Administration (MPA) is the comprehensive integration of management education with public policy and administration. The cornerstone of our MPA program is our signature “integrated curriculum” designed around three fundamental concepts that together define competence in Sustainable Management. Students in the MPA program take classes with MBA students, gaining cross-sector management and collaboration skills through team projects and assignments.

Today’s complex economic, social and environmental challenges require public managers to rethink policy and administration and to engage business, non-profit and community constituencies like never before. From citizen participation to climate action plans, public-private partnerships to green jobs, public administrators must lead and follow at the same time.
Our unique public administration degree integrates principles of sustainable management into core coursework while building the skills to think and act systemically in addressing our most compelling policy issues, whether energy, infrastructure, healthcare or housing. Going beyond a traditional MPA, our program prepares students with the confidence and competencies to shift policy, program implementation and public management in ways that not only improve organizational performance but create broader social impact.
The MPA program is a 60-credit curriculum with 15 required courses and one elective. The program combines face-to-face classroom experience with the flexibility of interactive distance-learning. Students have as much in-class time as a traditional MBA program. However, PGS provides an additional level of learning through a robust online component that develops essential management skills and facilitates virtual collaboration among students.
The full-time program spans two years and the part-time program four years. Each semester, classroom instruction takes place over a four-day residency period (part-time students attend classes for two days). These residencies occur Thursday through Sunday once a month for five months.
