Course Description:

This course explores energy technologies and systems in a framework of enduring social and environmental stewardship on a global scale. The course begins with an overview of various energy sources. It then explores the fundamentals of current and future energy systems with focus on technologies with high development potential. The course uses a pragmatic hands-on, yet systemic, approach to the subject of energy management, including technological, environmental, economic, strategic, organizational, and public policy dimensions. Our emphasis will be on understanding and applying appropriate tools for developing sustainable energy systems including: technology, economic, planning, evaluation, and policy analysis.
Student teams will work on a field study project to learn the current energy technologies and practices, and to explore relevant economic, policy and environmental factors in the industry and government.
