Presidio Graduate School Welcomes Maggie Winslow, PHD, as Chief Academic Officer and Academic Dean

Dr. Winslow is a founding PGS faculty member and will play an integral role in the school’s unique academic approach to systems thinking, equity and sustainability

FEB 9, 2021 – San Francisco – Presidio Graduate School (PGS), a nonprofit, accredited institution with a mission to educate changemakers to build a flourishing future for all, has announced Maggie Winslow, PhD, as the organization’s new chief academic officer and academic dean.

An accomplished academic, Winslow is one of PGS’s founding faculty members. Previously, she spent nine years teaching managerial economics and macroeconomics through an ecological lens, as well as serving as Master of Business Administration program chair and academic dean. In her new role, Winslow will help advance PGS’s academic approach to incorporating systems thinking, equity and sustainability across the school’s curriculum.

“We’re delighted to welcome Dr. Winslow back to the Presidio community,” said PGS President Elizabeth Maw. “As a founding faculty member, Dr. Winslow has a deep understanding of the Presidio DNA and culture. Her experience and leadership will be invaluable in coaching the next generation of changemakers to rethink outdated systems and create positive impact in our world.”

Prior to her new role, Winslow managed the Master of Science in Environmental Management and the undergraduate Environmental Studies program at the University of San Francisco (USF). In 2016, she created and founded USF’s Master of Science in Energy Systems Management, an interdisciplinary program for the transition to a clean energy economy. Until 2021, she was the program director and professor of Energy Systems Management, teaching renewable energy economics, renewable energy finance, and quantitative methods.

“I’m honored to return to Presidio as chief academic officer and dean. In many ways, it feels as if I never left,” Winslow said. “One of my greatest passions is witnessing the next generation of creative, motivated students discover new solutions to systemic problems. The academic curriculum, student culture, and classroom conversations at Presidio are the genesis of this discovery, and I’m energized to continue our work together.”

In addition to PGS and USF, Winslow has taught at UC Berkeley, Antioch University, the Central European University, and the Conservation Strategy Fund. She has conducted research for numerous organizations, including the Lawrence Berkeley Lab, where she worked on the economics of energy efficiency. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Williams College, a master’s degree from the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources, and a doctorate from the Energy and Resources Group at UC Berkeley.
