Founded in 2003, Presidio Graduate School (PGS) educates and inspires a new generation of skilled, visionary, and enterprising leaders to transform business and public policy and create a more just, prosperous, and sustainable world. Through innovative MBA, MPA, Dual Degree, and Executive Certificate programs in Sustainable Management, PGS activates students and professionals across a range of disciplines, industries, and sectors to bridge the gap between commerce and the common good. PGS has 150 students currently enrolled and more than 1900 alumni. In addition to management fundamentals, PGS’s programs emphasize curriculum integration, systems thinking, multisector solutions, and experiential learning, as well as a focus on environmental sustainability and social justice in every course. sustainability leaders.

Our graduate programs have a low residency structure split between in-class and online learning. Classroom teaching occurs during one four-day weekend each month in San Francisco together with a weekly on-line learning component spread over a 17-week semester.

Position Summary

Reporting to the President, the Finance Director leads financial operations and works closely with the Senior Administrative team to ensure financial oversight, budget management, and smooth operations. The Director will have direct oversight of the school’s operating budget and financial accounts, and they will be responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient financial operations of the program. As PGS continues to grow in terms of reach, depth, and impact, the Director will provide strategic vision and operational expertise on our growth plans and opportunities for transformative impact.

Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Maintain best practices, systems, accuracy, and integrity in accounting and finance, with oversight of budget and audits
  • Provide actual vs. forecast performance reports to functional department heads, partnering with the program and operational teams to develop organization-wide awareness and knowledge of financial issues and concerns
  • Develop streamlined financial reports (P&L and cash forecasts) for senior leadership and Board of Directors, enabling the President, full Board, and Finance Committee to make critical strategic and fiscal decisions
  • Oversee relationship with third party accounting firm, FASS

Budgets and Financial Planning

  • Prepare school budgets, lead multi-year financial planning, and program-specific financial planning

Reporting and Compliance:

  • Oversees all audit preparation including annual non-profit financial audit as well as single audit (related to Financial Aid and DoE funds)
  • Oversee various compliance and accreditation audits, site visits, and reporting
  • Senior Financial Officer for WASC (accreditation)

Talent and Operations

  • Oversee team, talent, operations, and organizational systems

General Management

  • Mentor, manage and coach direct and indirect reports
Qualifications and Characteristics
  • Passion for PGS’s mission
  • MBA or CPA preferred
  • 5-7 years of financial oversight experience; experience in education preferred
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Technically savvy and meticulously organized
  • Excellent organization, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to excel in a matrix environment and build collaborative relationships
  • Effective developer of solutions to business challenges; self-motivated with excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Natural ability to bring an energetic, action-driven attitude and enjoyment to daily work
Location

Presidio Graduate School will be operating with a remote structure until at least January 2021. When new offices are secured, the high priority is for the new office to be within walking distance to a BART stop in either the East Bay or San Francisco. This position is office-based and will be expected to report to an office once secured. However, PGS has a flexible culture, and telecommuting may be possible one day per week.
